
Rita Padawangi is Senior Lecturer at the Singapore University of Social Sciences. She received her PhD in sociology from Loyola University Chicago, an MA in urban design from the National University of Singapore, and a BA of architecture from Parahyangan Catholic University, Indonesia. Her research interests include place-making, sociology of architecture and participatory urban development. She is a co-coordinator of the collaborative Southeast Asia Neighborhoods Network (SEANNET), an initiative for urban studies research, teaching and dissemination. She is the editor of Routledge Handbook of Urbanization in Southeast Asia (2019) and Cities by and for the People in Asia (2019, with Yves Cabannes and Mike Douglass). Her upcoming publication is a Cambridge Element on Urban Development in Southeast Asia (Cambridge University Press).
