Michael Zürn

Prof. Dr Michael Zürn is Director of the Department of Global Governance at the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB) and Professor of International Relations at Freie Universität Berlin. Since 2019, he has been a spokesperson for the DFG-funded Cluster of Excellence Contestations of the Liberal Script (SCRIPTS). He was co-founder and board member of the Berlin Graduate School for Global and Transregional Studies (BGTS) and founding rector of the Hertie School of Governance. He is also a full member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the Academia Europaea. His research is particularly devoted to the emergence and functioning of inter-and supranational institutions as well as normative tensions and political conflicts that give rise to these developments. He also has studied the domestic repercussions of internationalization for democratic societies.
