Opening Session: Bringing the future back to democracy
Opening Session: Bringing the Future Back to Democracy

Keynote

Reflection
How we think about the future determines how we act today. For a long time, the prevailing belief has been that we are living in the age of TINA – There Is No Alternative. Faced with systemic challenges such as the climate crisis, we have realised that we must transform the way we live, consume and produce as societies. Yet, no transformation can succeed without a clear sense of direction. We need to imagine points in future history to strategically focus on and move towards during the coming years. But how do we develop tangible visions of the future? In this session, the philosopher Jonathan Rowson talks about why we struggle to develop compelling visions, followed by a reflection on the key levers that can bring the future back to democracy with climate activist Helena Marschall and economist Jens Südekum.
